Faridabad diaries: leaf shredding and composting

Some good news comes along and make one smile. Pankaj Kumar Singh from Jadunath Enclave located in Sector 29, connected with me in early April 2021. Wanted to compost the leaves generated in the green 5.50-acre community with 100 homes. All information and guidance was shared in phone conversations along with a few pictorial references and videos. Pankaj, the newly appointed President of the community and a banker by profession, did not take time to understand that the community would actually be saving a lot of money by composting all the leaves in-house (even after the purchase of a shredder). Sure enough, they are saving Rs 4000/- every month as they spent Rs 95,600/- in the last 24 months on horticulture collection and disposal itself. They are going to be generating beautiful mulch as you can see in the pictures and enrich their soil instead of throwing this treasure away…. And the most beautiful part of the story is that the turnaround time from idea, and inputs to action was only 30 days!! Kudos to Pankaj – he is indeed praiseworthy, inspiring and I hope gets a special mention from MCF. We also hope every community in Faridabad, India initiates this.
