Welcoming the toads – our bioindicators

#morningwalk

#monsoon is here and so are the toads!!! Little friends – our bio Indicators that tell us that things are right in the natural world! Rejoice #nirvanacountry. However, sadly, many were squished under vehicle wheels. #driveslow in colony lanes… lest you destroy these significant signs of well-being in times of climate change. And no better natural pest control than having a healthy toad population on your property. Don’t just walk by when you see them – say ‘hello’ to honour their presence. Species: Indus Valley toads (Duttaphrynus stomaticus)

‘’Amphibians, specifically Anurans (e.g. Frogs & Toads) have been recently considered to be important. Closely related to each other, these amphibians are animals, capable of existing in both water and land ecosystems. Amphibians are selected in most studies because scientifically, if something affects frogs and toads, it’s likely to affect every other form of life, including humans (Morell 1999). They are studied in order to evaluate the extent and type of environmental degradation in an ecosystem as they are very sensitive to even slight fluctuations in environmental settings (Cunningham)’’. A very nice piece on the significance of frogs and toads in Indian art
