24-Hour compost machines

It is such a tempting thought – you say ‘aabra ka dabra’ and the garbage just disappears into a machine – and in 24 hours, something black comes out which does not look like garbage anymore.
But please do not be fooled with what comes out- specially if somebody promised you compost. It is NOT COMPOST. Thanks to our forward looking Ex-Commissioner Shri Yadav Yashpal, we were able to conduct a pilot project in Gurugram with 5 of these so-called 24-hour composting machines. The output was sent to Shree Ram Institute for Industrial Research & Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. IARI reports did not fulfil the compost criterion while Shri Ram institute never came back with any reports at all. Energy consumption noted was very high to create charred output, which practically had no use. Thanks to this pilot our Commissioner did not empanel these vendors in Gurgaon. So beware friends, while the wave of Swacchta is rising in the country and many people are joining the bandwagon looking for some good money and fame – do not ride the wave on false promises and fall prey to unsustainable methods of getting rid of your waste.
