Naukuchiataal, Uttarakhand: Swachh Sarvekshan month
I love my beautiful India. A peep into Naukuchiataal, Uttarakhand. One of the smaller pristine and idyllic villages…
We are almost in the Swachh Sarvekshan month. A Doctor and his wife who gave been here since Covid complain of frequent burning of the invasive weed and dry leaves, and uncovered mixed waste collection. One can see that plastic burning is rampant too, like it is in most smaller towns one has seen (Maggi, biscuit, chips wrappers, etc).
TV and radio can play a very critical role in creating awareness – simple solutions like waste decomposer needs to be introduced by the local administration for weeds – costs barely anything (I hear the gram sabhas have ample funds from a meeting with the elected councillor). If anybody has more ideas on weed management, they would be welcome. Land is ample, composting very doable too for each home…
With Swachh Bharat Mission in its 7th year, this is disappointing performance. It takes one man on the top to change the destiny and quality of life for a village/town/city. I pray for such men and women all the time. 🙏
I want to be able to keep traveling my beautiful country with pride and hope…
